April 2010

Welcome to our spring newsletter! AUDIO for the web has been very busy this year, and the pace shows no sign of letting up. Some of our recent work is highlighted on this page, along with some exciting upcoming projects.

This newsletter is a way of keeping in touch with the friends and associates we've met since the company started in 2006. The idea is to keep it brief and very occasional, but if you'd like to unsubscribe, please use the link at the bottom of this page.

Featured format: scripted podcasts

While unscripted podcasts benefit from sounding fresh and authentic, there's undoubtedly a place for a script in certain types of podcast. Scripts allow greater control over the message, and can lend podcasts a professional polish, as these two examples show.

Historic Royal Palaces fairy storiesEnchanted Palace fairy stories

We were delighted to work with Historic Royal Palaces on audio material to accompany a new exhibition at Kensington Palace, entitled The Enchanted Palace.

Excellent voice talent was recruited from within the organisation. We recorded the narration at the Tower of London and then created evocative soundscapes to complement the stories. You can listen to them here, where you see 'Fairytales in audio'.

Accordia audio tour

Accordia walking tour

Our walking tour of Cambridge's groundbreaking housing development Accordia is now available for download. We developed the hour-long tour for Shape East, supported by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).

Its 16 podcasts feature interviews with all the key players, from architects to local planners, embedded into a carefully crafted, professionally voiced script.

Video news

UCL video shootWe're getting an increasing number of requests for video, and recently completed a fascinating video project for UCL Library Services.

We created a 10-minute video podcast showcasing the treasures of the special collections through interviews with academics, librarians and students.

Production is now underway for 12 complementary audio podcasts, 6 of them enhanced with images.

You can watch the video on this page.

Other projects

Health sector

We've been helping the Nuffield Trust with their podcasts, producing content about two recent events. Here's one of these: a PowerPoint video with commentary.

We covered two events during National Pathology Week, for the Royal College of Pathologists: a debate about screening and a panel about the effect of high altitudes on the heart.

We're enjoying working with the British Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery on their monthly Ortho-pods podcast series.

We were commissioned to produce a report on the Tenth Annual Self Care Conference, organised by the Proprietary Association of Great Britain and the Royal College of GPs. It can be heard on this page.

I've been working with the Department of Health on a number of projects, including capturing the opinions of delegates at national and regional events about clinical leadership.

Elsewhere

Audio work for the Internet's largest career development resource, Mind Tools, continues at the rate of four podcasts a month. Highlights from the Expert Interview series include podcasts with Dr Mark Goulston on the power of listening and Susan Scott on the importance of 'fierce' conversations. My interview on managing talent, with Rob Goffee, can be heard by non-subscribers here.

We've been working with the Bishopsgate Institute on their fascinating talks podcasts.

We provided voice tracks for more than 30 training videos produced by the Open University as part of a Europe-wide web development project. Other voicework includes webcasts for Chartis Insurance, American Telemedia and the Netherland's MetaProfiel.

Upcoming

We've been commissioned by Islington Council to produce four podcasts as part of their Heatwave summer campaign, to encourage greater participation by young people in out-of-school activities.

We're excited to be starting another audio tour project with Shape East. This time it's a walking tour of Devil's Dyke in Cambridgeshire, an ancient earthwork with a rich history.

We're producing audio content for two Open University courses on nursing. This will be based on an in-depth interview with Janet Davies, Director of Nursing and Service Delivery at the Royal College of Nursing.

On the video side, we've been commissioned to produce some short videos capturing what it means to be a 'dignity champion', as part of the Department of Health's Dignity Campaign.
